CBSE Revises Syllabus For The 2020-21 Academic Session
The world has been struggling to battle the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic for almost a year now. As governments
strive to manage and contain the disease's spread, a state of emergency and nationwide lockdowns have become
the current norm. Schools have been closed since early last year, and students have suffered a loss of studies.
Keeping these limitations in mind, and given the NCERT and various stakeholders' suggestions, the CBSE has
rationalised the Grade 9-12 syllabus by 30% for the 2020-21 academic year.
The CBSE academy session has been severely disrupted. The board decided to compensate the students for the
loss they suffered due to a reduction in classroom teaching, even though online classes are on. The CBSE has
given guidelines to schools to ensure that the learning outcomes for the students remain unaffected. Here are
the highlights:
All core concepts in various subjects have been retained in the revised syllabus
Teachers have to ensure these topics are suitably taught to students to enable them to use the
information while learning other topics
Deleted portions of the syllabus are to be excluded from all assessments
Most activities are to be removed to devote maximum time to academics
Teachers have to use various technological and social media tools to connect with students and parents
Teachers have to keep children engaged and productive at home by assigning creative and meaningful
activities along with links to video and radio programmes as well as audiobooks
Teachers have to be more empathetic and compassionate as some students may struggle with
depression
The Board feels these measures will help students feel less pressured and more equipped to plan their studies
effectively.
